Continuously Learning ... and forgetting?

I recently had the privilege to a C-Level coffee discussion, and took this opportunity to introduce the ABC of ICT card deck, and asked to pick up the 3 top cards that spoke the most, based on the professional experiences.

8 spades was selected - "Continuous Improvement Culture" ... or actually lack of.

Projects start, end, in the best cases, there might be a post-mortem done (should this be renamed?) ... but rarely the learning gathered during this last phase is actually re-used.

So, lessons are learned, then filled in the cabinet and promptly forgotten.

So, I asked "my friend" why organization don't allocate more resources on continuous improvement for projects?

Here is the answer:

---
There are several reasons why organizations may not allocate sufficient resources to continuous improvement for projects.

Firstly, there may be a lack of understanding or awareness of the benefits of continuous improvement, leading to a belief that it is an unnecessary expense.

Secondly, organizations may prioritize short-term goals and financial targets over long-term investments in process improvement.

Thirdly, there may be a lack of leadership commitment to continuous improvement initiatives, which can result in insufficient resources being dedicated to them.

Finally, organizations may struggle to find the right balance between investing in process improvement and delivering results, leading to a reluctance to allocate resources to continuous improvement initiatives that do not provide immediate returns.

The 2 other cards selected:

- "The helpless" Deck - 3 of hearts
- "Walking the Talk" - 9 of clubs
